Two quotes can advertise the same fee and still leave you with different amounts. For a purchase comparison, record all naira paid and the net USDT expected to reach the chosen destination. Compare the same asset, network, timing and payment method.
The two numbers to collect
Let N be the total naira you pay, including any separately charged payment cost. Let U be the net USDT expected at the destination after all token deductions. The effective cost is N ÷ U naira per USDT. Use the provider’s final confirmation details to collect these numbers. A displayed exchange rate alone does not show the full outcome.
A worked example, not a current quote
The following numbers are invented solely to explain the arithmetic. They are not current naira exchange rates or platform fees.
| Illustration | Total naira paid | Net USDT received | Effective cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | ₦100,000 | 60 USDT | ₦1,666.67 per USDT |
| B | ₦100,000 | 59 USDT | ₦1,694.92 per USDT |
In this example A has a lower cost per received unit. That numerical result does not establish that its provider, payment route or counterparty is safer.
Do not add the same cost twice
If a quoted buy rate already reflects a spread, do not apply another spread deduction to the same quote. Likewise, if the preview already shows a net receive amount after withdrawal fees, do not subtract that withdrawal fee again. Keep a separate column for costs already included and costs still added outside the quote.
Keep units consistent
A fee in USDT belongs in the token calculation. A fee in naira belongs in total naira paid. Do not add the two as if they were the same unit. If the destination or network differs, the transfer costs and compatibility may differ too; collect a new quote for the same route before comparing.
Save a quote record
- Date, time and quote expiry.
- Payment method and total naira debited.
- Asset, network and destination type.
- Gross tokens, each separately deducted fee and net tokens.
- Costs shown as included and any costs still uncertain.
If net receipt is missing or zero, the effective-cost calculation is not usable. Ask for a complete breakdown. This is a comparison worksheet, not a recommendation to buy USDT or use a particular service. USDT, payment routes and custody arrangements carry risks beyond the arithmetic.
